Essay Topic

“At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done. We will be judged by ‘I was hungry and you gave me to eat, I was naked and you clothed me, I was homeless and you took me in.’ Hungry not only for bread — but hungry for love. Naked not only for clothing — but naked for human dignity and respect. Homeless not only for want of a room of bricks — but homeless because of rejection.” - Mother Teresa

What is the importance of serving the people and community around you? Upon receiving your education, how do you plan to use your education in the service of others?

About Ivy Advantage and 12+

Ivy Advantage Academy is proud to announce its Ivy Civic Leader Scholarship, open to all graduating seniors of the class of 2014. We would like to honor select high school seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to enriching their communities and plan to use their education in the service of others. Ivy Advantage Academy is a private education company that offers a variety of academic and leadership opportunities to the greater Philadelphia community. Our goal is to build students into strong individuals who demonstrate both character and intelligence of the highest caliber. We envision a generation of students who do not only excel academically, but also strive to make the world a better place.

The teachers at Ivy Advantage Academy are the leaders of 12 Plus, an education nonprofit located in inner-city Philadelphia. 12 Plus offers comprehensive college readiness and access support to some of the most under-resourced schools in the Philadelphia School district. 12 Plus was started by graduates of the University of Pennsylvania in response to the need to build college-going cultures in Philadelphia high schools. 12 Plus supports its partner schools through academic enrichment, SAT preparation, college guidance, and career counseling.

Through their efforts at 12 Plus, the leaders of Ivy Advantage Academy have seen how important it is to groom future generations of civic leaders in our community. The goal of this scholarship is to encourage high school seniors to engage with their communities and to infuse their studies with a desire to make this world a better place. We congratulate the class of 2014 and look forward to seeing the impact you will make in the years to come!
